Directorate of Finance, Planning and Commercial Operations

The payroll and pension department run 2 monthly payrolls, supporting approx. 450 casual and 1650 salaried staff. We strive to deliver an excellent service to all staff, assisting them through various stages of their work lifecycle. We’re currently supporting colleagues in faculties and professional services with ongoing transformational change projects, including transitioning to a new ERP system towards the end of the year.

What you will be doing:

  • Ensure all actions on the payroll checklist have been completed and checked; responsible for the complete reconciliation of monthly payroll files, check payment variances, create and send BACs files.
  • Assist with running the monthly RTI process, produce costing files and liaise with management accounts regarding any anomalies.
  • Ensure accurate administration of any 3rd party deductions and arrange payments ahead of statutory deadlines.
  • Control the monthly pension returns to the different pension schemes and deal with pension exceptions/queries.
  • Ensure that queries/requests are dealt with in a timely manner and within department SLAs; be the first point of call for more technical PAYE and pension queries; manage and develop the performance of the payroll and pensions administrators to ensure consistency across the team and reduce errors.

Qualifications/ experience:

  • Level 3 qualification (eg. A level/BTEC level 3, T level, Advanced apprenticeship) or similar.
  • Experience of processing payroll and pensions information and working in a payroll &/or Pensions team
