The Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Bradford is seeking to appoint a Faculty-based Business Development Manager to provide support for research and knowledge exchange (RKE). This is a permanent position at 0.7FTE reporting to the Director of the Centre for Skin Sciences (CSS). As skin research forms a significant part of the industry research portfolio, a research background in skin and hair biology will be a distinct advantage.
About You:
This is a key role bridging between Faculty academic teams and Research and Innovation Services who provide support for development of both industrial and non-commercial funding for research.
You should have:
• Significant experience in a previous role(s) that have developed or shaped academic-industry collaboration, whether from within industry or within academia and a keen interest in the industrial application of research.
• Experience in building external relationships/contacts and finding and acting on new RKT opportunities whether through academic staff or through own research and efforts
• Experience of skin sciences research – or research in a related area such as biomedical engineering, skin microbiome research, ageing research
• Project management experience and an understanding of commercial contracts and project costing systems.
• Track record in working independently, being self-motivated and comfortable working with staff at all levels in the organisation.
About the Role:
Your role will be to engage and support/mentor our teams of academic staff towards successful business engagement and industry funded research and you will work with many teams, both within CSS and more broadly within the Faculty and wider University. Ideally you will bring your business understanding to the discussions with industry to enhance the value of the relationships to our partners. You will be a force for innovation in developing processes that will increase efficiencies in knowledge transfer and will advise and support the teaching staff in our business modules at MSc level. You will demonstrate strong values in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and will receive regular training. The role does not have direct line management responsibility and is a hybrid role with a high degree of flexibility of working between home and the University city campus.
Please ensure that you include a CV and detailed Covering Letter with your application via our portal. In your covering letter you should be clear about how you meet each relevant criteria in the person specification including evidence of your experience. For more information please contact the Director of CSS Professor Julie Thornton (email m.j.thornton@bradford.ac.uk) or the School administrator Farahnaz Firdoos (f.firdoos@bradford.ac.uk).
